I have mentioned it in my last post, but now it has actually taken some shape:
My newest project – an adult coloring book about myths and legends of different countries.
So far I have set my target completion to end of October / beginning of November.
The fist page is finished and is about the Baccoo legend from Barbados in the Caribbean.
A Baccoo is a mean little man or spirit that lives in a bottle. When released, the person needs to serve and feed him otherwise might risk a curse.
The next country I am working on is France. I am thinking to make Jeanne D’Arc (Joan of Arc) the topic. I am planning to add a short paragraph about each story underneath the pictures.
My main concern is to try and be as true to the time and culture as possible but also make it interesting by including motion and interesting perspective.
Which is the reason I threw out my original sketch for the scene of page 1 to go with a different perspective and look for the person.
But I also need to make sure to have elements suitable for a coloring book, aka not too little and not too much white space to color.
I am looking into what are good options to finally publish the book. Should I try on demand so I don’t have to have a bunch of books printed and cost upfront? But I might get a better quality for the price otherwise. I also want to make sure it is a good format and material for coloring.
A little promotion event for the release would be fun too, but I have never done this so I still have much to research.
Another idea I had is to put each page on RedBubble and Society6 so people can get it on pillow covers or tote bags and color with sharpies or fabric markers.
Maybe I have some more developments and definitely the second page in my next post.
